Meet Jalon

meet jalon

Raised in Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion neighborhood by a hardworking single mother and inspired by his grandmother's commitment to civic engagement, Jalon learned early that communities become stronger when people refuse to accept the status quo. Those experiences shaped his lifelong commitment to expanding opportunity, improving public safety, and ensuring that every Philadelphian—regardless of their ZIP code—has the chance to succeed.

After graduating from Bodine High School for International Affairs, Jalon attended Penn State University, where he became the first African American President of the Commonwealth Campuses Student Government and served on the University's Board of Trustees. He later earned his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law while also completing graduate studies in public and international affairs.  Some of Alexander’s work includes: successfully representing a holocaust survivor who was unjustly denied medical benefits, collaborating with organizations like the Bicycle Coalition and transit advocacy groups to help produce legislation to punish parking in bike lanes, and organizing his community to advocate for SEPTA transit funding.

Today, Jalon is running to represent Philadelphia's 5th Council District because he believes City Hall should be more responsive, more accountable, and more focused on delivering results for the people it serves. He is committed to making neighborhoods cleaner and safer, expanding housing opportunities, supporting small businesses and commercial corridors, and investing in SEPTA, and preparing young people for careers in technology, the skilled trades, and other growing industries. Jalon is ready to listen and bring energetic, thoughtful, and accessible leadership that puts residents first and works every day to build a Philadelphia where every neighborhood can thrive.
